The park is home to the Waverley Park Hawks Junior Football Club and the Notting Hill Brandon Park Cricket Club. It is also used for Auskick and is a popular recreation spot for the local community.
The football and cricket clubs have been an integral part of the Wheelers Hill community for almost three decades and have more than 530 active members between them.
Recently the clubs have seen a growing number of female players looking to sign up, however the old pavilion was not up to modern standards and inappropriate for female use.
The old facilities have been replaced with female friendly changerooms, a new multi-use community space, a first aid room, canteen, storage space, undercover area and car parking. All facilities are fully accessible.
This will give the clubs the opportunity to welcome more female players and people of all abilities, and provide club officials with greater flexibility to schedule training and competition.
The Victorian Government is strongly committed to sport and active recreation, gender equality and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active.
Project partners Monash City Council provided over $1.8 million to the project.
