Event Compliance
Legislative responsibilities for events including the Sports Event Ticketing (Fair Access). Major Events (Crowd Management) Act and the Aerial Advertising) Act are administered by Sport and Recreation Victoria.
The Sports Event Ticketing (Fair Access) Act 2002 regulates the sale and distribution of tickets to certain sports events to ensure fair access, control ticketing scalping and improve major event ticketing practices.
Anti-scalping legislation applies to the 2006 AFL Grand Final and the 2007 FINA World Swimming Championships. The legislation was successfully implemented to the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
The Major Event (Crowd Management) Act 2003 promotes the safety and enjoyment of participants and spectators at certain venues and major events. The Act names specific managed venues and major events to which the Act is to apply. In addition, the Minister can declare Major Events if the Minister is of the opinion that it is in the public interest to do so.
The Major Events (Aerial Advertising) Act 2007 provides for the regulation, management and control of aerial advertising at major events in Victoria. The Act provides for a number of ‘hallmark’ annual sporting events, including the AFL Grand Final and Boxing Day Test cricket match, to be protected from unauthorised aerial advertising under the Act every year.
