The objectives of the Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Act 1985 are:
- to control professional boxing and combat sports
- to reduce the risk of malpractice
- to promote safety
The Act also provides that the Board can advise the Minister on all matters relating to professional contests.
The Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs has made a determination under section 5 of the Act in relation to cage fighting.
