National Ice Sports Centre

National Ice Sports CentreThe National Ice Sports Centre will be the latest addition to a world-class network of sporting facilities and precincts that help make Melbourne the world’s Ultimate Sports City. The Centre will feature two rinks with spectator seating and be equipped to host national and international ice hockey, figure skating, curling and speed skating events.

To be built in the heart of Docklands, beside the Southern Star Observation Wheel, the National Ice Sports Centre is a $58 million recreational hub for Victorians that will cater for a range of elite sport and recreational winter sports enthusiasts. The Centre will be home to the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia, providing a national base for Olympic training and assist Australia’s elite athletes to compete at the top level. It will also provide access for the general public to participate in recreational ice sports or come and try activities, adding to the range of entertainment options available at Waterfront City.

The Victorian Government will contribute $10 million towards the National Ice Sports Centre, which will be the first of its kind in Australia. ING Real Estate Development Australia is investing $48 million in the project, which is expected to be completed by early 2010.
