Supporting Country Sport program
Sport and recreation plays a vital role in strengthening communities, particularly in rural and regional Victoria. The Victorian Government recognises that small populations and distance can make sustaining local sport and recreation groups difficult.
Sport and Recreation Victoria funds the Supporting Country Sport program (previously known as the Regional Sports Assembly program) to help provide volunteer support, information and training and development opportunities to local clubs in rural and regional Victoria.
The funding is used to:
- produce and distribute relevant and up-to-date information to local sport and recreation clubs and organisations on sport and recreation issues and opportunities.
- provide volunteer support and club development opportunities for local sport and recreation.
- support state sporting associations to deliver activities and projects in rural and regional Victoria.
Regional Sports Assemblies
Nine Regional Sports Assemblies are funded under the Supporting Country Sport program to provide services in their local areas.
